Saving Money On The Road

After spending all of my money on things like mortgages and bills for about twenty years, I finally decided that it was time to take a trip to enjoy my life. I began researching different parts of the world that would interest me and my family, and I settled on a European vacation fit for a king. We stayed in all of the best hotels and focused on eating out and enjoying our time away from home, and by the time we got back, we felt great about the progress we had made. I wanted to make a blog all about saving money on the road, so you can travel more and worry less.

Insight For Planning An Upcoming Alaskan Inside Passage Cruise

Travel Blog

Sometimes you just need to get away from the busyness of your life and the stress of work by taking a cruise to a destination that is full of wildlife and beautiful scenery. An Alaskan cruise up the Inside Passage is a great way to experience the islands and shores with glaciers, whales, and a gold rush history. Here are some recommendations to use as you plan and schedule your upcoming Alaskan Inside Passage cruise.

Choose Your Travel Dates and Locations

When you want to see the coast of interior Alaska through the Inside Passage, there are several different destinations that you can stop at along your cruise. Depending on the cruise ship company, the ports that are included in the cruise, and also the length of the cruise will all determine which and how many places you can stop at for shore excursions. You can stop at ports along the Gulf of Alaska, Puget Sound, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Prince of Wales, Pelican, Sitka, Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, and the Misty Fjords National Monument. Make sure you select a cruise that will stop at all, if not most, of the destinations on your list.

Cruise season through the Inside Passage does not traditionally run through the winter months of October through March. During these months, the weather is cold, windy, and snowy, and the hours of sunlight each day are fewer than would make a good sight-seeing experience, so make your plans for a spring, summer, or early fall cruise. From May to September, Alaska provides mild weather that has good sunshine but occasional rainfall, but you should expect such with the beautiful green scenery.

Pack For Your Trip

As you near your cruise dates, you will need to make a plan of what you need to pack for clothing and outerwear. Temperatures are mild and warm during the summer season of Alaska, but be prepared for cooler temperatures in the evenings and at night. The best way to handle cold and warm temperature changes is to pack in layers so you can add on clothing and remove the layers when it is needed and the weather goes from cool to warm.

Bring a pair of sturdy hiking or walking shoes, and also some rubber-soled sandals that you can wear to the pool on the cruise ship. Then, don't forget a swimsuit and sunscreen for swimming, but also a rain jacket if a rainstorm comes up when you are on an excursion on land. Bring a tote bag that you can carry your essentials in when you go shopping or on a boat ride, and bring appropriate clothing consisting of shorts, pants, t-shirts, sunglasses, a sun hat, and a jacket, depending on the weather.

Keep these tips in mind when planning to book an Inside Passage Cruise through a local service.
